Top Ten for Fall 2011 Part 1 - Fur

Labor Day has come and gone and while autunm doesn't officially begin until September 23, most of us start thinking Fall after summer's last holiday.  As the designers begin to unveil their spring collections and the rest of us reluctanly begin putting away our summer frocks, I thought I'd share with you my picks for Fall 2011's top ten trends.  The first trend we'll examine is in my opinion one of the most important looks for the coming Fall Season - Fur. It started rolling in last season and this year promises to be one of the hottest styles of the year.
1. Fur

with brown leather pants. Also notice the model's red lips and dark, short fingernails -- two small accents that will give your look an instant update. Another Alice + Olivia look (right) again combines metallics and fur. This time the metallic is woven into a tweed fabric. Silvery grays were featured once again along with red lips and short bold nails. We also see another important influence for fall - the snakeskin sandals.
Fur featured prominently in every major designer's Fall Collection. From outerwear to accessories, fur, both real and faux (my preference) made its appearance in a number of unexpected ways. Take this runway look from Alice + Olivia (left) for example. Gray continues to be an important color in the fall collections, but here we see an unlikely pairing with a variety of browns. Note also the mix in textures for this look. We see a shiny metallic blouse (another strong trend)

Still a little pricey for your budget? Try subsituting brown denim or corduroy boot-cut jeans for the leather ones. You'll still have the basic look without the high leather price tag. Heart set on leather? Leather pants, especially brown ones seem to be in short supply in the mid-priced and budget ready-to-wear collections this season, but were somewhat plentiful a few years back. Check your neighborhood consignment and thrift stores. Finding your size may be hit and miss, but if you score, you'll have them for a song. While you're there, you might also wish to check out vintage sequin tops to complement the look for even less!

This one was a little trickier to put together, but I think we have a workable alternate look in the separates that I've chosen. The vest here is a bit more simple, but also more versatile. This one could work with jeans as easily as the more dressed-up look. The Coldwater Creek sweater has a great glimmer with the tiny sequins and works well to give oomph to the ensemble. The tweed skirt, while lacking the metallic fibers, works nicely with the other pieces, and with the slim, pencil cut, gives a very similar silhouette. It's not exactly the runway look, but considering over $1,200.00 in savings, not a bad look in the least!

Stylishly yours,
